GLOSSARY
VACANT POSSESSION
Vacant Possession is a contractual requirement stating that by the time completion occurs, the seller must clear the property of all people, pets, and personal belongings. It ensures the buyer receives the property completely empty, clean, and ready for immediate occupation.
If a seller leaves behind unwanted furniture, rubbish, or fails to move out by the contractual completion time, they are in breach of contract for failing to give vacant possession.
This can entitle the buyer to claim financial compensation for any resulting inconvenience or storage costs.
